Women in Tech Sri Lanka expands its outreach to Trincomalee, connecting young talent with technology, career opportunities and industry exposure beyond Colombo.
TRINCOMALEE, Sri Lanka: Women in Tech Sri Lanka is strengthening its commitment to expanding technology education, career guidance and professional opportunities beyond Colombo, with a recent visit to Trincomalee highlighting the growing potential of young people outside the country’s traditional technology hubs.
Led by Sanali Kaushalya, Country Director of Women in Tech Sri Lanka, the Trincomalee visit included two key engagements with university students and young people preparing to enter the professional world. The sessions focused on emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, innovation, leadership, career development and the future of work.
The first session was conducted in collaboration with the Faculty Career Guidance Cell, Faculty of Applied Science, Trincomalee Campus of Eastern University Sri Lanka. The programme brought together final-year students from the Department of Computer Science (DCS) and Department of Physical Science (DPS).
The discussions provided students with an opportunity to explore how their academic knowledge can translate into professional opportunities and how they can prepare for an increasingly technology-driven employment landscape.
Kaushalya emphasised that a university degree is only the beginning of a technology career. Graduates must continuously develop their technical knowledge alongside communication, adaptability, creativity, problem-solving and networking skills to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving industry.
A second session was held at ESOFT Metro Campus Trincomalee, focusing on career development, emerging technologies, professional growth and the skills required to become future-ready professionals.
The engagements highlighted the significant talent and ambition that exists outside Colombo. While young people across the country possess the ability and motivation to succeed, greater access to industry exposure, mentorship, professional networks and knowledge remains essential to helping them reach their full potential.
“Empowerment cannot remain concentrated in Colombo. We need to ensure that young people across Sri Lanka have the opportunity to learn, connect, develop and lead,” said Kaushalya.
Women in Tech Sri Lanka aims to build lasting connections between young people, technology, industry and opportunity, rather than limiting its work to individual events. The organisation believes that expanding access to technology education and professional networks can contribute to creating a more inclusive and geographically diverse technology ecosystem.
Kaushalya expressed her appreciation to the Faculty Career Guidance Cell, department heads, academics and students of the Trincomalee Campus of Eastern University Sri Lanka, ESOFT Metro Campus Trincomalee, Women in Tech Sri Lanka team members, partners and everyone involved in organising the engagements.
She also thanked the people of Trincomalee for their warm welcome and hospitality.
Women in Tech Sri Lanka will continue its efforts to take technology education, empowerment and career opportunities to communities across the island, with the aim of ensuring that Sri Lanka’s technology future is driven by talent from every region, not just one city.
